The publication series “Common BIM Requirements 2012” is the result of a broad-based development project entitled COBIM. The need for these requirements arises from the rapidly growing use of building information modeling in the construction industry.

The General part section describes the basic principles, requirements and concepts that should be followed in BIM-based projects. This part defines the general targets for BIM in projects. The BIM Coordinator will apply these targets for the project and supervise the modeling according to these objectives. In certain points of the project, such as building permit application or bidding, BIM is a tool for decision making. In the everyday routines, the Working Models are supposed to be a flexible and rapid method to exchange design information and to represent the intended design solutions.
